One-Day Conference on “The role of Geomorphology in Modern Society”of the Hellenic Committee for Geomorphology and Environment of the Geological Society of Greece, December 16, 2020.
Under the auspices of the International Association of Geomorphologists.
Within the framework of its activities, the Hellenic Committee for Geomorphology and Environment of the Geological Society of Greece, in collaboration with the Department of Geography of the Harokopio University of Athens and the Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, organizes a One-Day Conference on “The role of Geomorphology in Modern Society”. The event will take place online on December 16, 2020.
Among the main goals of the Conference are:
-
to present and discuss the results of modern research in all topics of geomorphology;
-
the application of new innovative techniques and methods in geomorphological research;
-
to assess and predict the future landscape evolution in the light of climate change;
-
to reveal the role of geomorphology in modern times and to enhance its contribution to the prevention, preparedness and adaptation of societies to natural hazards and disasters;
-
to activate young geomorphologists and encourage cooperation among them.
The thematic areas of the Workshop cover a wide range of topics in geomorphology: coastal and submarine geomorphology, fluvial geomorphology, karst geomorphology, tectonic geomorphology - morphotectonics, glacial geomorphology, applied geomorphology, new techniques and methods for geomorphological mapping, geoarchaeology, palaeogeography and paleoenvironmental reconstruction, Quaternary geology, natural hazards and disasters.
Geoscientists (members of the scientific community, academics and researchers, public administration and local government officials, etc.), active in any of the topics of geomorphology are welcome to participate in the Workshop. Among the main aims of this scientific event is to give the opportunity to young geomorphologists to present the research results of their undergraduate/MSc/PhD thesis.
The scientific program of the Workshop will include online oral and poster presentations. Submitted abstracts will be evaluated, grouped in thematic sections, and presented in thematic sessions.
Participation in the Workshop is free and there is no limit to the number of abstracts an author may submit.
During the Workshop, invited speakers will give plenary lectures on specific topics of geomorphology. The names of the invited speakers will be announced shortly.
Abstracts will be submitted in Greek or English.
