Geomorphology is the interdisciplinary and systematic study of landforms, their landscapes and the processes that create and change them.

According to Article 10 of the Constitution of the Geological Society of Greece (GSG), Scientific Committees are established and operate within the frame of (GSG). The Committees are constituted by the regular members of the GSG and aim at fulfilling the goals of the Committee focusing on a specific geological scienctific field. The Committee for Geomorphology and Environment was established in May 2004 in the context of the activities and objectives of the GSG. The establishment of the Commission came as a request of a Board of Directors of the Society and was approved by its Board of Directors.

The aim of the Committee for Geomorphology and Environment is to develop geomorphological and environmental studies through the collaboration of Greek geoscientists, members of the GSG as well as third party researchers.

The Committee supports all individual scientific disciplines of geomorphology and geo-environment such as applied geomorphology and geo-environment, modern techniques and methods in geomorphology, morphotectonics, fluvial and coastal geomorphology, geoarchaeology etc with the aim of spreading the subject to the whole scientific community of our country as well as worldwide.

The Committee supported, supports and will continue to support the scientific work of Greek geoscientists, working in the field of geomorphology and geo-environmental studies, through the organization of Greek and international conferences and workshops, as well as by establishing working groups that promote scientific knowledge.

The Committee for Geomorphology and Environment works consistently and methodically for the continued presence of Greek geomorphologists in international conferences and forums. The Hellenic Committee for Geomorphology and Environment has been a National Scientific Member of the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) since 2005, representing Greek geomorphologists at an international level.
